Reconstruction of Route 63, Whalley Avenue in New Haven from Route 69 to Emerson Street Scheduled to Begin
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that work will begin for the reconstruction of Route 63, Whalley Avenue between Route 69 and Emerson Street on July 13, 2009.
The project consists of full-depth road reconstruction including utility relocations along with replacement of traffic signals, concrete sidewalks and two drainage culverts at the West River.  Retaining walls with simulated stone facing, imprinted sidewalks, and the planting of trees such as cherry, sugar maple, magnolia, crabapple and dogwoods are also included as part of the reconstruction work.  These added features will provide a pleasing and safe environment for drivers, bicyclists, transit vehicles and users, and pedestrians of all ages and abilities.
Lane closures will begin next week in conjunction with  utility relocations. Motorists are urged to seek an alternate route as significant delays can be expected in the area during work hours.
Closures of lanes may occur during the following times:
Monday – Friday 9 am to 3 pm
Saturday and Sunday 10 pm to 10 am
The contract was awarded on May 4, 2009 to Complete Construction Co., Inc. of Ansonia, CT at a cost of $9,316,671.00 and scheduled to be completed by November 2010.
