Public Information Meeting – Rehabilitation of Bridge 00596, Route 68 over State Route 710, Route 8, Naugatuck River and Metro-North Railroad in the City of Naugatuck, Connecticut.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the rehabilitation of Bridge 00596, Route 68 over State Route 710, Route 8, Naugatuck River and Metro-North Railroad in the City of Naugatuck, Connecticut.  The meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the Naugatuck Town Hall, Hall of Burgesses, 229 Church Street, Naugatuck, Connecticut.
The proposed project consists of replacing the existing superstructure with prestressed concrete girders composite with a reinforced concrete deck.  A bituminous concrete overlay will be placed on top of the concrete deck.  The abutment and pier seats will be reconstructed to accommodate the proposed superstructure.  The proposed length and width will be the same as the existing structure.
Work is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2011 and be completed in the spring of 2014.  The rehabilitation of this bridge is to be undertaken with On-System funds.  The estimated construction cost for this project is $11,000,000.
The construction will be performed in two stages, maintaining one lane of traffic in both directions.  A detour along state routes will be implemented for a total of 24 weekends during the project to remove the existing superstructure and construct the proposed structure.  There are no right-of-way impacts anticipated for the project.
The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.
Plans will be on display for public review.  ConnDOT personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.  More detailed information is available at ConnDOT's Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.  Anyone wishing to review the plans may contact Ms. Mary E. Baker at (860) 594-3402 or (860) 563-9375 to make an appointment.
All persons interested in this project are welcome to attend this meeting and discuss the project with ConnDOT personnel.
