Pavement Preservation to begin October 10, 2009 on I-91 in the towns of Wethersfield and Rocky Hill
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of a pavement preservation project on I-91, from the vicinity of Exit 25 to Exit 23 in the Towns of Wethersfield and Rocky Hill beginning October 5, 2009. The  project is one of several transportation infrastructure initiatives being funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The project consists of the milling and resurfacing of the travel lanes from exit 25 (Route 3, Maple Street- Putnam Bridge) to exit 23 (Route 229 West Street).   The shoulder areas will remain closed during the milling and paving operation. 

Special Advisory

The contractor is scheduled to be paving one lane at a time and there will be a taper along the edge to allow vehicles to move across lanes.  However, motorists are cautioned to reduce speeds in the area and stay in lanes unless passing or exiting.

Motorists can expect lanes closures as follows:

I-91 NB

          Monday – Thursday 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

          Friday 7 p.m. to 10 a.m.

          Saturday from 1 p.m. to Monday 6 a.m.

I-91 SB

          Monday – Thursday 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

          Friday 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday

          Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday

          Sunday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday

The contract, DOT Project no. 0118-0162, was awarded on September 18, 2009 to Empire Paving, Inc. of North Haven, CT at a cost of $3,439,947.00, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2009.
