Nighttime Construction Work to Begin on the Aetna Viaduct in Hartford
The Department of Transportation announced today that nighttime construction work to rehabilitate and repair the Aetna Viaduct (Interstate 84 between Exit 46 and Exit 48) and adjacent bridges and ramps  in Hartford will begin Sunday, May 11, 2009.
Activities include repairs to the concrete bridge decks, milling and paving, bridge joint replacement, and the rehabilitation of structural steel including abrasive blast cleaning and painting.
The project was awarded to Manafort Brothers, Inc. of Plainville, CT at a cost of $22.3 million and is scheduled for completion in September 2010.
The work will impact nighttime traffic on I-84 including ramps. The allowable hours of work are:
Interstate 84
Monday-Thursday
8 pm - 6 am both directions
Friday
I-84 East, 8 pm to 9 am Saturday
I-84 West, 9 pm to 10 am Saturday
Saturday
I-84 East, 8 pm to 11 am Sunday
I-84 West, 8 pm to 10 am Sunday
Sunday
I-84 East, 7 pm to 6 am Monday
I-84 West, 8 pm to 6 am Monday
Ramp Closures and Detours: Nighttime ramp closures will be required. Additional press releases will be issued in advance of the closures. The ramps scheduled for closure are: Exit 46 (Sisson Ave) EB on ramp; Exit 47 (Sigourney Street) EB on and WB off ramps; Exit 48 (Asylum and Capitol Avenue) EB off and WB on ramps. The allowable hours of work are:
Monday-Thursday
8 pm to 6 am
Weekends
Friday 8 pm to 9 am Saturday
Saturday 9 pm to Sunday 11 am
