Bridge Replacement work scheduled to start in the Town of Cheshire for the Route 42 bridge over Roaring Brook
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of construction for replacement of the bridge carrying Route 42 over Roaring Brook in Cheshire. The bridge is located between Whispering Hollow Court and Mountain Road in the Town of Cheshire. Work is scheduled to start on or about October 1, 2009.
The Route 42 Bridge has been posted for a ten (10) ton maximum weight limit as a result of a recent routine bridge inspection. As a result, replacement of the structure was prioritized by the Department.
The project consists of replacing the bridge deck and minor drainage work along Route 42 and was awarded to Brunalli Construction Company of Southington, Ct. on September 10, 2009.  The estimated value of the work is $650,000.00 and is scheduled for completion in December, 2009 with a requirement that the contractor have the bridge replacement completed and reopened to all traffic by November 20, 2009.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Route 42 will be restricted to one lane of traffic utilizing alternating one-way traffic along Route 42 for some of the construction work and will be closed to all traffic for a 7 day period between Whispering Hollow Court and Mountain Road to complete removal and replacement of the structure.

All work will occur between the hours of 6:00 AM and 8:00 PM.

Advance notice will be provided once the actual date of the full closure is known.  A preliminary schedule indicates that the full closure will occur in late October early November.  A posted detour will be utilized during this time to route traffic around the construction site using state roads.

Motorists are urged to map out an alternate route prior to the complete road closure occurring.
