A New Exit 80 Off Ramp from I-395 North to Route 82 in Norwich to be Opened

The Week of June 1, 2009

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the I-395 north Exit 80E and Exit 80W to Route 82 will be combined into a single exit ramp known as Exit 80. This will result in the permanent closing of Exit 80W.

All traffic exiting I-395 north will no longer be required to use different ramps to access either Route 82 west or eastbound.  Traffic will be able to gain access to either direction of Route 82 using the new Exit 80.

The new Exit 80 ramp will provide a new signalized intersection at Route 82 and 4 turning lanes to Route 82 (2 lanes for westbound and 2 lanes for eastbound traffic)

Traffic may experience delays between 7 PM and 6 AM on I-395 during the week of June 1, 2009 for the installation of new overhead signs.

The ramp reconfiguration is part of the Route 82 Operational Improvements at I-395 project that was awarded to Tilcon Connecticut, Inc. at a cost of $8,346,741. The work began April 21, 2008 and is scheduled to be completed in November 2009.
