Traffic Realignment Scheduled for Route 8 north and south between Exits 41 and 42 at the bridge over the Naugatuck River in the towns of Harwinton and Litchfield

The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced today that, weather permitting; Route 8 northbound and southbound will be limited to one lane of travel beginning Monday, September 22, 2008 to allow for the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 00609 over the Naugatuck River.

A temporary cross over to shift Route 8 southbound traffic onto Route 8 northbound will be in place, reducing traffic to one lane in both directions.  Concrete barriers will be installed to divide the directions of travel.  The traffic crossover with single lanes of travel is expected to last through the spring of 2010.

The work is part of an $8.7 million dollar contract with MIG Corporation of Acton, Massachusetts.  The project includes replacement of the bridge concrete deck, substructure repairs, and structural steel repairs, including painting.

Motorist should expect minor delays.
