Newington, CT- The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a resurfacing and safety improvement project for Interstate 95 from Exit 34 (Rte 1, Bridgeport Ave) in Milford to Exit 41 Marsh Hill Road in Orange is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, September 15, 2008.

The contract was awarded to Manafort Brothers Inc. of Plainville, CT on July 14, 2008 at a cost of

$30,998,979.00 and is scheduled to be completed in August 2010.

The project consists of pavement milling and resurfacing, bridge deck repairs, upgrades to guide rail and traffic signs, repairs to existing concrete median barrier, and repairs to existing drainage crossings. Also included in the contract is work on the expansion joints for three I-95 bridges in West Haven over Sawmill Road, Greta Street and Allings Crossing Road, and the installation of fire protection system extension at the Route 15 Sikorsky Bridge in Milford.

First phase of construction activity will be for the clearing and thinning of trees and brush along I-95, completion of bridge work in West Haven, and installation of the fire protection system at the Sikorsky Bridge.

Motorists can expect lane closures on I-95 and the Milford Connector (Rt 15 Exit 54 / I-95 Exit 38) and daytime shoulder closures on Route 15 at the Sikorsky Bridge. The allowable hours of work are:

Interstate 95

Monday-Thursday

I-95 North: 9 am to 2 pm, 8 pm to 6 am

I-95 South (nights only): 7 pm to 6 am

Friday (Night work only)

I-95 North: 10 pm to 8 am Saturday

I-95 South: 8 pm to 8 am Saturday

Saturday (Night work only)

I-95 North: 7 pm to 11 am Sunday

I-95 South: 8 pm to 10 am Sunday

Sunday (Night work only)

I-95 North: 7 pm to 6 am Monday

I-95 South: 8 pm to 6 am Monday

Milford Connector - Monday thru Friday, 9 am to 3 pm
