Reconstruction of I-95 from Exit 50 to Exit 51 in New Haven is nearing completion.  Another important step towards completion of the I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing Corridor Improvement Program.

Newington, CT- The Connecticut Department of Transportation is pleased to announce that work on Contract C2 of the I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing Corridor Improvement Program is nearing completion.  Contract C2 is located in New Haven and consists of the reconstruction of approximately one mile of I-95 just east of Stiles Street in New Haven to the New Haven/East Haven town line.

The work includes:

·         Reconfiguration of Exit 49 (Stiles Street) and Exit 50 (Woodward Avenue)

·         Reconstruction and widening of I-95 between the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge and the New Haven/East Haven line.

·         Reconstruct Woodward, Townsend and Forbes Avenue Bridges

·         Open I-95 northbound to 4 lanes from Interchange 50 to Interchange 51.

·         Open I-95 southbound to 3 lanes– Interchange 51 to existing Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge

The contract was awarded to O&G Industries, Inc. of Torrington, CT. and began September 26, 2005.  The contract is scheduled to be substantially complete by August of this year.   This is 10 months ahead of the original completion date of June 30, 2009.

It will provide much needed safety improvements with the addition of the travel lanes, improved interchanges and new bridges.  The biggest benefit will be the improvement to traffic flow in this portion of I-95 which many consider to be one of the most congested areas of the state.

Nighttime closures will occur from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting:

Week of June 30, 2008:  Opening of all lanes including ramps on I-95 northbound and southbound to be completed.

July 7 - July 10, 2008:  I-95 northbound final paving and line striping from Exit 50 – 51

July 14 - July 17, 2008:  I-95 southbound (SB) milling, final paving and line striping from Exit 51 to the on-ramp from Exit 50 (Woodward Avenue/Main Street/Stiles Street).
