NEWINGTON, Conn –Transportation Commissioner Joseph F. Marie, announced today that the Department of Transportation (Department) is developing plans to revise/install traffic control signals to improve safety and increase roadway capacity at the following location (s):

Project No. 172-359: Putman, Route 171 (Woodstock Avenue) at West Thompson Road.

Project No. 172-365: Chester, Route 154 (Middlesex Turnpike) at Route 148 (Water Street-Ferry Road) and Kirtland Terrace; Franklin, Route 32 (Windham Turnpike) at New Park Avenue; Griswold, Route 138 (Pachaug Road) at I-395 NB On Ramp; Groton, Route 1 (Long Hill Road) at Meridian Street; Haddam, Route 81 (Killingworth Road) at Little City Road; Montville, Route 82 (Norwich-Salem Turnpike) at Route 163 (Bozrah Road); Putnam, Route 44 (School Street) at I-95 NB Ramp and Waterford, Route 1 (Boston Post Road) at Strosberg Road.

“It is the Department’s policy to keep persons informed and involved when such projects are undertaken,” said Commissioner Marie.  “It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development.  If there is adequate interest, an information meeting will be conducted.  At this time, it is not anticipated that a formal public hearing will be necessary.”

The present schedule indicates that the project will be advertised March 11, 2009.  The project will be funded with federal, state and local monies.
