The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of construction work for the replacement of the Hollow Tree Ridge Road Bridge over Interstate 95 as well as reconstruction of approaches to the bridge extending to the Noroton Heights Railroad Station entrance in the town of Darien.

The contract was awarded to Mohawk Northeast, Inc. at a cost of $5,159,874.50 and is scheduled to be completed in May of 2009.  

Traffic may experience delays as follows:

Interstate 95

Monday–Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.  No weekend lane closures are allowed during the summer period from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Hollow Tree Ridge Road – DETOUR

Hollow Tree Ridge Road will be closed to traffic between Linden Avenue and the Noroton Heights Rail Station effective November 10, 2008.  Detour signs will be in place to direct motorists around the areas.  Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.

Special Note- Traffic may be halted up to 10 minutes between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m. on I-95 and between 8 pm and 6 a.m. on Hollow Tree Ridge Road to protect motorists and pedestrians during the removal or setting of structural steel for the bridge.  Advance notice of these events will be provided.

Variable message signs will be utilized to advise motorists of traffic conditions in the area.

Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and precede with caution through this and all construction work zones.
