Daytime Blasting Operation Scheduled for Wednesday November 12, 2008 along I-95 between Exits 11 and 12 in Darien, CT

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that traffic will be halted along I-95 Southbound and I-95 Northbound including ramps in the vicinity of Exit 11 (Route 1) and Exit 12 (Route 136- Tokeneke Road) to allow for a blasting operation to remove rock in area of construction.

The work is scheduled for Wednesday, November 12, 2008 with an alternate date of Thursday November 13, 2008 if weather conditions are not favorable on Wednesday.

Traffic on I-95 will be halted for 5-10 minute intervals 2 or 3 times between 10:00 a.m. and 1 p.m. during the rock blasting. In addition, to the brief stoppages of I-95, the corresponding northbound and southbound ramps at Exit 11 and 12 will also be stopped.  Slow moving roadblocks will be used to facilitate the halting of traffic during blasts and motorists can expect significant delays in the area.

Variable message signs will be used to provide advance warning of event and to provide information on traffic conditions in the area.

The work is part of a $14,999,995.00 DOT project to add speed change lanes between Exits 11 and 13 in the town of Darien.  The project is scheduled to be complete September of 2009.
