Newington, Connecticut – The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the culvert crossing on Route 122 (First Avenue) in West Haven near the South Bound I-95 off ramp is being replaced. 

The new culvert will improve area drainage and reduce local flooding experienced during heavy rains.  Upgrades to Regional Water, Southern CT Gas and sewer services are also part of the contract.

The contract was awarded on July 31, 2008 to Colossale Concrete Inc. of Berlin, CT at a cost of $1,133,214.00 and is scheduled to be completed in August 2009.  

Traffic may experience delays as follows:

Interstate 95

Intermittent traffic impacts to the SB exit 43 off-ramp.  No interference is permitted on the ramp during rush hour periods.

Route 122 (First Ave)

Lane closures are permitted Monday–Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. and weekends from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m.

Commuter Parking Lot at I-95 NB on ramp The project will be utilizing approximately 50% of the Commuter Lot at exit 43 for storage and facilities.  A construction access will be built.  Motorists should be aware that construction vehicles make frequent stops and may be accessing the storage area from the I-95 NB on ramp. 

The Project will utilize protected work zones to maintain traffic flow and facilitate work during the periods restricted from lane closures.  Motorists should slow down and maintain awareness in the work zone.
