Cheshire and Waterbury, CT - The Department of Transportation announced today that, weather permitting, Empire Paving, of North Haven, CT will begin paving on I-84 Eastbound beginning on June 19, 2008. This work will be performed at night and will continue until Eastbound paving is completed. The limits of work are from Pierpont Road in Waterbury to Marion Road in Cheshire.

The exit 25A and 26 ramps will be closed on the nights the ramps are paved. Ramp closures and detour use will be limited between the hours of 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Detours will be posted.

Paving on I-84 Eastbound is expected to be completed in early July.

Paving on I-84 Westbound will begin after paving is completed in the Eastbound direction.

In addition, drainage repairs will continue on I-84 Westbound and will be performed at night.

The Westbound exit 25A and 26 off ramps will be closed one at a time to perform drainage crossings.   Ramp closure and detour use will be limited between the hours of 10:00 p.m to 6:00 a.m. Detours will be posted.

Traffic Operations



Traffic may encounter various single lane or shoulder closures between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on I-84, and also after 6:00 p.m.

During night operations traffic may also be reduced to one operational lane between the hours of 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. in the Eastbound direction, and between the hours of 8:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. in the Westbound direction.

Closure of ramps for exit 25A and exit 26 may be encountered between 10:00 p.m to 6:00 a.m.

Construction signs and State Police will be utilized for traffic control.

Motorists should use caution through the work zones and reduce their speed accordingly.
