Darien, Connecticut – The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction work has commenced on the Hollow Tree Ridge Road Bridge over Interstate 95 in the town of Darien.  The project involves the replacement of the Hollow Tree Ridge Road Bridge as well as reconstruction of approaches to the bridge extending to the Noroton Heights Railroad Station entrance.

The contract was awarded to Mohawk Northeast, Inc. at a cost of $5,159,874.50 on March 24, 2008 and is scheduled to be completed in May of 2009.  

Traffic may experience delays as follows:

Interstate 95

Monday –Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.  No weekend lane closures are allowed during the summer period from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Hollow Tree Ridge Road

Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

Special Note- Traffic may be halted up to 10 minutes between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m. on I-95 and between 8 pm and 6 a.m. on Hollow Tree Ridge Road to protect motorists and pedestrians during the removal or setting of structural steel for the bridge.  Advance notice of these events will be provided.

Variable message signs will be utilized to advise motorists of traffic conditions in the area.

Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and precede with caution through this and all construction work zones.
