Reconstruction of the Grand Avenue Bridge

Over the Metro-North Railroad in New Haven

Scheduled to begin Thursday, December 14, 2006

New Haven, CT- The Connecticut Department of Transportation has awarded a $ 7.6 million dollar project to The Baier Construction Company, Inc, of Bloomfield, CT for the reconstruction of the Grand Avenue Bridge that carries traffic over the Metro-North Railroad in the City of New Haven. The project is scheduled for completion by November 2009.

Work is scheduled to begin Thursday, December 14, 2006 and motorists can expect lane closures from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The reconstruction work on the Grand Avenue Bridge will require closing of the road.  The detour is expected to begin on or about January 2, 2007. 

Signs will be posted for the detour route and City police officers will be used to assist motorists through the area. 

Traffic will be detoured as follows:

Vehicles traveling on State Street or Elm Street, towards Grand Avenue will be detoured north on State Street to east onto Grove Street to south on Olive Street back to Grand Avenue.

Vehicles traveling on Olive Street or Grand Avenue, towards the bridge, will be detoured north on Olive Street, west onto Grove Street, south on State Street back to Grand Avenue.

Artizan Street will be converted to a two-way street between Court Street and the Fire Department.  No on-street parking will be allowed on Artizan Street during this period.

Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling through construction work zones and allow for extra travel time.
