NEWINGTON, Conn. - State Transportation Commissioner Ralph J. Carpenter announced today that a Bridge Maintenance project will be performed on Route 136 Drawbridge (Bridge Street) over the Saugatuck River in Westport.  This project is scheduled to begin on or about Tuesday, May 8, 2007 and continue through Thursday, May 10, 2007. This project will require the closing of the Drawbridge while the work is being performed and a posted detour will be in effect.

Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the detour.  The regular work schedule for the project is 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Tuesday - Thursday). 

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.  Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
