The Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) is announcing that work is underway on a 30-month project for the repair of the Ferry Street Bridge in New Haven.

Effective Tuesday, September 5, 2006, there may be temporary lane closures on surrounding roads to include East Ferry St. and River St. between 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM Monday through Friday associated with the above project. An existing detour to the Grand Avenue Bridge will continue to be used until completion of all bridge construction.

The entire project involves the removal of existing lead paint and repainting of all structural steel elements, major repair to the bascule spans and all machinery as well as structural repairs to the approach spans. The bridge tender houses will be rehabilitated and the pier fender systems will be replaced.
