CTDOT Green Light - Computerized Traffic Signal System Timing Plan Evaluation - CRCOG Banner

CTDOT Green Light is a transportation initiative that will update Connecticut’s traffic signal system timings. This will result in a wide range of transportation economic and environmental improvements that increase people’s quality of life by meeting user needs. The project offers better traffic flow to improve safety, reduce congestion, save fuel, and improved air quality.

There are several key components of CTDOT Green Light that are wide reaching and include:

Performance Measures

Since the beginning of 2020, the project has included retiming of the State Corridors highlighted in the maps below:

This project is currently implemented in the Capital Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) area. This is a multi-phase project in which all four phases have been completed. Annual benefits resulting from signal timing changes include the following performance measures.

Performance Measures Graphic Representing Combined Results: reduction of 238,000 hours of delay; reduction of 207,300 gallons of fuel; savings of $7.442 million dollars; reduction of 1,822,000 kilos of emissions; and reduction of 16.08 million stops
Cumulative Performance Measure Phase Results

Each phase of the project consisted of improvements to signal timings of approximately 300 signals across the CRCOG area. CTDOT will continue to monitor the traffic signal operations and update every three to five years.
