The Financial Institutions Division ("FID") regulates various entities pursuant to Title 36a of the Connecticut General Statutes, including:
- State-chartered banks (including bank and trust companies, savings banks and savings and loan associations)
- State-chartered credit unions
- Business and industrial development corporations
- International trade and investment corporations
- Certain non-banking corporations that exercise fiduciary powers

Please visit our Find a Financial Institution page for more information.
The role of the FID is to ensure that the citizens of Connecticut can safely conduct financial transactions in responsibly-managed, safe and sound institutions that are under its supervision.
FID receives its funding from industry through assessments that are calculated as a percentage of an institution's assets, and from licensing and application fees and penalties.

Professional Accreditation
FID has been continuously accredited by the Conference of State Bank Supervisors ("CSBS") since 1986, with the most recent on-site accreditation received in November 2012. Accreditation certifies that the division meets the highest standards and practices of bank supervision and regulation.
FID has also been accredited by the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS) since 1990, with the most recent on-site accreditation received in October 2015. Connecticut was the third state, and is presently one of only 28 state credit union regulatory agencies in the country, to merit the designation intended to foster a standard of excellence in the examination and supervision of credit unions.
