Student Loan Payments:
Principal and interest payments on federally held student loans were suspended during the pandemic.  The U.S. Department of Education’s COVID-19 relief for student loans is ending this year. Student loan interest resumed on Sept. 1, 2023, and payments restarted in October.  Get more information at the U.S. Department of Education's Federal Student Aid.

What is a Student Loan Servicer?

A Student Loan Servicer is a company that collects the payments on a student loan.  The company "services" the loan by receiving the scheduled payments from a student loan borrower pursuant to the terms of the loan, and applying the payments of principal and interest and such other payments with respect to the amounts received from a student loan borrower, or performing other administrative services with respect to a student education loan.

These entities are required to be licensed by the Department of Banking to do business in Connecticut.  You may determine of your student loan servicer is licensed by visiting Student Loan Servicers Licensed in Connecticut.

Complaints

If you have an issue or dispute with your student loan servicer you may File a complaint with the Department of Banking. The Department of Banking pursues complaints against Student Loan Servicers, either federal or private.
