State Police Detectives Seize Illegal Fireworks

East Haven, CT. (July 2, 2016): Over the past several weeks detectives from the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit (FEIU), in conjunction with the FBI New Haven, developed information that a large quantity of illegal commercial grade and consumer grade fireworks were being stored and prepared for use at a private residence in East Haven.
On July 2, 2016 at approximately 1:30 p.m. state police detectives from FEIU, the FBI New Haven and members of the East Haven Police Department responded to the East Haven residential address. Investigators seized a large amount of commercial fireworks shells (5, 6 and 8 inch commercial display shells), commercial multi shot “cakes”, M-Devices (Improvised Explosive Device), homemade commercial type shells, consumer grade packages containing several thousand shots, rockets and manufacturing and firing equipment.
Detectives from the Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Unit Bomb Squad responded to the scene and took possession of the fireworks and explosive devices.
The investigation is on-going and criminal charges including possession of fireworks and explosives, manufacturing of improvised explosive devices and reckless endangerment are pending.
