Today, 4/20/11, at approximately 9:50 a.m. 4 black males entered the Naugatuck Savings Bank located at 363 Main St. North in Southbury and committed an armed robbery. They escaped with an undetermined amount of cash. No injuries were reported.
Western District Major Crime Detectives responded to document the crime scene and gather evidence. Detectives are conducting a criminal investigation into this robbery. Detectives interviewed several witnesses and obtained information regarding this robbery.
The area was searched immediately after the robbery by State Police K9 teams, Troopers, and the Resident Troopers Officer Personnel searched the area. All surrounding police departments were notified of the incident and given a description of the suspects who were described as: 4 males, Three (3) of the suspects had an average height of six (6) feet. The last suspect was described as being under 6 (six) feet. All suspects were described as having an athletic build.
The suspects were wearing a dark colored mesh mask that covered their entire face, including their eyes. -One suspect was described as wearing a gold colored shirt under his outer clothing. -One suspect was described as wearing a red colored shirt under his outer clothing. -All suspects were wearing a variety of dark colored outer clothing. -van observed was used in the robbery. It was located a short time later a short time later several hundred yards from the bank in an H.H. Stone Construction Company parking lot. The vehicle a van was stolen out of New Haven and is a green/sage color. State Police processed the van for evidence and have developed some leads in this case.
