Super Bowl Sunday has become one of America’s biggest and most entertaining national sporting events. Friends and families will gather to watch the big game and to enjoy the festivities surrounding the game. However the festivities can make it one of the year’s most dangerous days on the roads and highways of our state due to impaired driving related accidents.
The Connecticut State Police offer some life saving suggestions to keep everyone safe on Super Bowl Sunday. Act responsibly by designating a sober non--drinking driver before the game even starts. The Super Bowl tends to be an all day event-prevent excessive alcohol consumption. REMEMBER FRIENDS NEVER LET FRIENDS DRIVE DRUNK!! Be prepared to call a cab for a friend or get that friend in need a ride with a sober driver.
Public Safety Commissioner James Thomas said “that designation of a sober driver before the “big game” is a simple way to avoid a tragedy or injury caused by an impaired driver. Remember a drunk driver face jail time, fines, loss of license, and other penalties. It will ruin a fun filled day”.
Colonel Danny Stebbins commander of the State Police Department said “State Troopers will be attentive to the possibility of drunk drivers during and after the super bowl event. Troopers will be aggressively enforcing all motor vehicle laws”.
Troopers over the Super Bowl weekend 2011 issued: 329 tickets for speeding.
Troopers also issued 661 tickets for Unsafe movement (follow too Close, Unsafe Lane Change, Failure to Signal etc).
Troopers also arrested 32 people for driving under the influence.
