CONNECTICUT STATE POLICE TO 'STEP UP' ENFORCEMENT PATROLS
                                                FOR JULY 4th WEEKEND

The Connecticut State Police will be increasing motor vehicle enforcement patrols through the 4th of July Holiday Weekend.

As part of the C.A.R.E. (the Combined Accident Reduction Effort), the Connecticut State Police will be strategically positioning additional State Troopers throughout the state to provide the maximum coverage of the targeted areas.

This effort will ideally prevent accidents from happening by taking enforcement action against those most at risk of causing accidents.  Preventable accidents on the highways are often caused by those operating aggressively such as driving at unreasonable speeds, following too closely, making unsafe lane changes and operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

These Troopers will be targeting aggressive driving and DWI offenses, thus creating a more visible presence to all the other motorists. These troopers will be operating normal patrol vehicles, unconventional patrol vehicles (such as unmarked Dodge Chargers) and, in some case, State Police Aircraft. The State Police B.A.T. Mobile (Breath Alcohol Testing Mobile Unit) will be out in several locations throughout the state to enhance the State Police efforts at DWI Spot Checks.
