                  STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING INCIDENT

On 04/12/07 at 12:54 a.m. State Police received a 911 call reporting that a shooting had just taken place at a private residence located at 40 Alders Bridge Rd. in Killingworth, Ct. it was reported that the shooter had fled from the scene. State Police and EMS personnel responded to the shooting scene. The wounded person was treated at the scene and transported to Yale New Haven Hospital where he is reported to be in serious condition. He has been identified as PATRICK FLANAGAN DOB: 11/18/65 who is a Meriden resident.

State Police Troopers secured the crime scene and interviewed several witnesses at the scene. Preliminary information determined that the male suspect had come to the private residence located at 40 Alders Bridge Rd in Killingworth to confront his former girlfriend who was staying with a female friend.  Patrick Flanagan, the shooting victim, was also at the residence and when Flanagan attempted to intervene between the accused and the female he was shot by the accused.

State Police Major Crime Detectives responded to process this scene and collect all physical and forensic evidence.

State Police established an identity of the person responsible for the shooting. Troopers responded to his residence in 57 Prince Street in Wallingford and with the assistance of Wallingford police the suspect was taken into custody at his residence. The suspect was transported to State Police Troop- F in Westbrook where he is being held.

ACCUSED: BENNETT, William   DOB: 2/2/71

CHARGES: Attempted Murder             

                     Unlawful Discharge of Firearm 

                     Commission of a Felony with a Firearm

                     Assault 1^st

                     Criminal Use of a Firearm

                     Threatening 2nd

                    Criminal Possession of a Pistol or Revolver                                                        

                     Reckless Endangerment 1^st 

                     Carrying Firearm w/o Permit

Bennett has been charged with several criminal charges related to this incident. He is being held on $1 Million dollar bond. Bennett will be presented at Superior Court GA #9 in Middletown today 04/12/07.
