State Police Investigating Fatal Motor Incident
On 03/13/2007 at approximately 11:37 a.m. a Waterford Police Officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 1 in the Town of Waterford. After successfully stopping the vehicle the Waterford Police Officer approached the operator and obtained identification information. The operator of the stopped vehicle fled as the officer was returning to the police cruiser with that information.
The officer attempted to catch up to the suspect vehicle and stop the vehicle again however contact was lost with that vehicle and the pursuit of the suspect vehicle was terminated .
Subsequently the officer discovered the suspect vehicle had crashed on Rope Ferry Road (Route 156) in Waterford. The suspect who was the sole occupant of the suspect vehicle was severely injured as a result of the collision into a tree.
The Waterford Police immediately requested that Emergency Medical Services be dispatched to the scene to render aid to the suspect. Upon the arrival of the EMS the suspect was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
At the request of the Waterford Police Administration and the New London State’s Attorney Office the entire incident is being investigated by the Connecticut State Police. This fatal motor vehicle incident is being investigated by the Connecticut State Police C.A.R.S. (Collision Analysis Reconstruction Squad) and the State Police Major Crime.
The suspect has been identified as:
Renaldo M. GOOSBY age 25 d.o.b. 06/29/1981
of Laurel Drive, New London, CT
