                      MOTORCYCLIST SHOT ON I-95 IN WEST HAVEN

At 3:30 p.m. State Police Troop G in Bridgeport received several 911 calls reporting a motorcycle accident had just occurred on I-95 southbound in West Haven.  EMS and State Police Troopers responded to the scene. Upon arrival it was determined that an accident had not taken place but that the two victims were each suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Both victims were transported to Yale New Haven Hospital Emergency Room.

One victim has been identified as ROGER MARIANI  DOB: 2/19/45 Cambridge Street Stratford, CT. MARIANI was pronounced dead in the emergency room of Yale New Haven Hospital . The second victim is identified as PAUL CARROL DOB: 8/26/68 of Bridgeport CT. CARROL was treated and released from Yale New Haven Emergency Room.

State Police obtained preliminary information from witnesses at the scene. State Police are presently searching for a Green Sports Utility Vehicle. The SUV is believed to be a GMC product bearing Florida registration plates and occupied by four males. All police agencies have been notified to be on the lookout for this suspect vehicle.

I-95 southbound was secured by responding Troopers as a crime scene. Initially all lanes were closed. At approximately 4:00 p.m., the left lane was reopened to southbound traffic.

The Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad responded to the scene to conduct the investigation into this incident. State Police Detectives are being assisted by the Milford State’s Attorney’s Office.

State Police are asking anyone who may have seen the motorcycles and/or the suspect vehicle in the New Haven and West Haven area on I-95 southbound to call State Police at 203-696-2500. All calls will be kept in strictest confidence.
