FEMA Individual Assistance
How Can FEMA Help?
What FEMA Individual Assistance Covers
Following Connecticut receiving a federally declared disaster, if you live in a county that has been designated for FEMA Individual Assistance (IA) program, FEMA may provide help to eligible applicants for disaster-related Housing and Other Needs Assistance for losses not covered by insurance.
Important Note on FEMA Assistance: FEMA's IA program is not intended to restore damaged properties to their original condition. Rather, their goal is to ensure your home is "safe, sanitary, and functional." Not all disasters qualify for this assistance.
Types of Assistance
- Housing Assistance: Can include rental assistance, home repair, and lodging expense reimbursement. Disaster damage must have occurred at your primary residence (secondary, vacation, and/or rental properties you own but do not live in are not eligible).
- Other Needs Assistance (ONA): Can include money for serious needs (essential items such as water, food, baby formula, medication), displacement assistance, childcare, clean and sanitize assistance, and vehicle repair or replacement.
