Emergency Burn Ban In Effect 10/26/24 - An emergency burn ban is now in effect for all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors. DEEP and local agencies are working to contain several active fires across the state. Please avoid all affected State Parks and Forests, as well as the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail. The Enduro Trail in Voluntown and portions of North Stonington within the Pachaug State Forest are closed at this time. Project Description:
The Department has prepared a draft permit and has made a tentative determination, subject to public comment or other information, to approve this application to renew the State Facility permit for this existing facility. Emissions of Oxides of Nitrogen, NOx, are limited (capped) to 22.5 tons per year (tpy), which is below the threshold for the Title V permitting requirements, and record keeping and reporting requirements are contained in the draft permit to verify compliance with the NOx limit.

The facility consists of a 15 Megawatt combustion turbine maintained to meet load demand and emergency power requirements, and a "Black Start" 430 hp diesel engine generator which only operates during startup of the combustion turbine. A copy of the draft permit is available for review at the Region I Stony Brook office.
