Notice of Coastal Consistency Exclusion

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has received a request pursuant to section 307(c)(1) of the Coastal Zone Management Act to exclude environmentally beneficial activities from consistency review with enforceable policies of Connecticut’s federally approved Coastal Management Program contained in sections 22a-92 to 22a-112 of the Connecticut General Statutes.  DEEP agrees to exclude remediation activities in tidal wetlands and intertidal flats at the Stratford Army Engine Plant from further review.

PROPOSED ACTIVITY

The proposed activity includes the installation of cofferdams around the work site; installation of a work platform; mechanical dredging of intertidal flats and tidal wetlands; site remediation; backfill of clean sediment to pre-existing elevations; tidal wetland restoration, and removal of work platform and cofferdams.
