DEEP will hold a hearing to receive public comments on this application on August 30, 2023 at 4:00 PM through Zoom, a remote online hearing platform. A link for the hearing is posted on the DEEP Calendar of Events. This public comment phase of the hearing will consist of informational presentations by the parties and the receipt of public comment on the record. Anyone disrupting the meeting will be immediately removed by the Hearing Officer. In addition, persons using initials, abbreviations, or obscene language or images to identify themselves will not be admitted.

This matter will continue with a remote evidentiary hearing September 12, 2023, for the presentation of testimony and documentary evidence by the parties to this matter. A link for the hearing is posted on the DEEP Calendar of Events.
The applicant seeks a permit to authorize the receipt, storage, processing and transfer of solid waste at 400 Commercial Drive in the town of Deep River, CT. The facility currently accepts: (a) C&D waste; (b) oversized MSW (furniture, mattresses, and carpets); (c) clean wood; (d) yard waste (leaves & grass clippings); (e) scrap metal (including appliances containing CFC liquid); (f) paper and cardboard; (g) commingled glass, plastic, and metal containers; (h) scrap tires; (i) putrescible MSW; (j) universal waste; and (k) MSW; and upon written approval of the Commissioner, will be authorized to also receive used oil and spent lead-acid batteries.

The draft permit specifies the terms, conditions, and specific performance standards, applicable to the facility, as deemed appropriate by DEEP, in accordance with the statutes cited above, as well as conditions deemed necessary to protect human health and the environment.
