Emergency Burn Ban In Effect 10/26/24 - An emergency burn ban is now in effect for all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors. DEEP and local agencies are working to contain several active fires across the state. Please avoid all affected State Parks and Forests, as well as the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail. The Enduro Trail in Voluntown and portions of North Stonington within the Pachaug State Forest are closed at this time. General Permit to Perform One Day Collections of Certain Wastes and Household Hazardous Waste

Notice of Reissuance of General Permit to Perform One Day Collections of Certain Wastes and Household Hazardous Waste

Pursuant to sections 22a-6, 22a-208a(i) and 22a-454(e)(1) of the Connecticut General Statutes (CGS), the Commissioner of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (“DEEP”) hereby provides notice of the reissuance of the General Permit to Perform One Day Collections of Certain Wastes and Household Hazardous Waste. This general permit authorizes the one-day collection and aggregation of greater than ten (10) cubic yards of household hazardous waste; greater than ten (10) cubic yards of covered electronic devices and/or used electronics; hazardous waste and universal wastes generated by a Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator; and sharps and pharmaceuticals generated from households. This general permit does not authorize the treatment, storage, disposal, or transportation of any such wastes.

The Public Notice of Tentative Determination to renew the general permit was published in six newspapers statewide on September 7, 2024. For comments received on this general permit during the 30-day comment period, refer to the website at https://portal.ct.gov/deep/public-notices/public-notices-final-actions/final-general-permits or contact Elizabeth Moore at 860-424-3567 or elizabeth.moore@ct.gov.

Permittees that were authorized under the previous general permit are required to submit new registrations with applications fee for authorization under the reissued general permit. The general permit and any registration forms are available on the DEEP website at portal.ct.gov/DEEP/Permits-and-Licenses/Permits-and-Licenses or may be obtained at the Bureau of Materials Management and Compliance Assurance of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, 79 Elm Street, Hartford, Connecticut during normal business hours.
