Emergency Burn Ban In Effect 10/26/24 - An emergency burn ban is now in effect for all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors. DEEP and local agencies are working to contain several active fires across the state. Please avoid all affected State Parks and Forests, as well as the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail. The Enduro Trail in Voluntown and portions of North Stonington within the Pachaug State Forest are closed at this time. The Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) hereby gives notice of the reissuance of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System & State General Permit for the Discharge of Swimming Pool Wastewater to Surface and Ground Waters of the State (“Swimming Pool General Permit”) on July 10, 2024, becoming effective August 1, 2024, and expiring on July 31, 2029.

DEEP has transitioned to an online Noncompliance Reporting platform for permittees to report instances of noncompliance for activities authorized under the general permit and recently launched a new online public platform for persons to report water quality complaints and concerns related to water pollution.
