Notice of Updated Forest Resource Management Plan – Nye-Holman State Forest

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Forestry Division, provides notice of final approvals of an updated Forest Resource Management Plan for Nye-Holman State Forest, 906 acres of forest land in the Towns of Tolland, Ellington, and Willington, Connecticut.  The plan, which was informed by historical records, a comprehensive inventory and local Municipal and stakeholder group outreach, will guide forestry and wildlife habitat management activities for the next 10-years (2026-2035).  Long-term planning goals include maintaining and improving the natural resources in the forest, diversifying forest age/size classes to create more suitable wildlife habitat and improve forest resilience, re-establishing native plant communities by reducing competition from invasive plants, improving infrastructure for access, protection from and resilience to the negative effects of climate change, and protecting the State-listed Critical Habitat poor fen black spruce bog.  An infographic further detailing the highlights of the plan has been prepared as part of the public review.
