Emergency Burn Ban In Effect 10/26/24 - An emergency burn ban is now in effect for all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors. DEEP and local agencies are working to contain several active fires across the state. Please avoid all affected State Parks and Forests, as well as the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail. The Enduro Trail in Voluntown and portions of North Stonington within the Pachaug State Forest are closed at this time. Please note that today's forest fire danger report remains at an 'extreme' level. More information about the current fire danger, burn ban and recommended safety measures can be found here

Firewood Program in the State Forests

Thank you for your interest in DEEP’s Homeowner Firewood Program. DEEP does not maintain an active firewood program. However, to assist in meeting the energy demands of the State, at times the Forestry Division has wood available that can be sold to meet the Division’s management objectives.

A firewood permit is $30/cord with a 2-cord minimum. The wood is usually within 100 feet of a dirt road. A 4-wheel drive pickup truck may be needed.

Applicants need to wear Personal Protective Equipment, including chainsaw chaps, hard hat with eye and ear protection, and boots.

For more information or to be added to a list of interested applicants, contact deep.forestry@ct.gov
