Emergency Burn Ban In Effect 10/26/24 - An emergency burn ban is now in effect for all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors. DEEP and local agencies are working to contain several active fires across the state. Please avoid all affected State Parks and Forests, as well as the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail. The Enduro Trail in Voluntown and portions of North Stonington within the Pachaug State Forest are closed at this time. Please note that today's forest fire danger report remains at an 'extreme' level. More information about the current fire danger, burn ban and recommended safety measures can be found here

How to Order a Long Island Sound License Plate Sample Long Island Sound license plate

Long Island Sound license plates are easy to order. You can obtain an application form from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) website or call 1-800-CT-SOUND. Off-the-shelf plates can be purchased directly at a branch office of the Department of Motor Vehicles or from a participating on-line automobile dealer when you purchase a new car.

The cost of the plate is a one-time charge. In the future, you just pay your required registration fee.

Connecticut drivers who care about their state's environment have purchased approximately 126,000 Long Island Sound license plates since the beginning of the program. The program raised more than $4 million from the sale of license plates and donations for projects to help restore the Sound and its habitats, foster educational opportunities, increase public access to the Sound, and conduct research.
