Provide Input on Coastal Habitat Restoration and Coastal Land Acquisition Prioritization in CT

To provide input on CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's (DEEP) draft prioritization criteria for coastal habitat restoration and coastal land acquisition projects, please select this link, or continue reading below to learn more.

DEEP is in the process of developing a project pipeline for habitat restoration and land acquisition projects that advance habitat and resiliency goals in Connecticut’s coastal area and Long Island Sound. This pipeline will advance projects to “shovel-ready” status through the development of project prioritization and selection criteria, planning, outreach, and technical assistance.

A key outcome of this effort will be ensuring that habitat restoration and acquisition projects benefit Connecticut’s coastal communities, including low-income with a particular focus on environmental justice (EJ) communities. By adopting a more structured planning process and prioritizing projects that address the needs of EJ communities, we aim to achieve more equitable restoration and conservation outcomes across Connecticut’s diverse coastal populations and regions.

CT DEEP is currently seeking public feedback on our draft project prioritization and selection criteria that, when finalized, will be applied to projects in the following categories:

  • Coastal habitat restoration planning, engineering and design
  • Coastal habitat restoration implementation
  • Coastal land acquisition

The intent of this criteria is to help guide project selection and future funding efforts.
