Emergency Burn Ban In Effect 10/26/24 - An emergency burn ban is now in effect for all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors. DEEP and local agencies are working to contain several active fires across the state. Please avoid all affected State Parks and Forests, as well as the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail. The Enduro Trail in Voluntown and portions of North Stonington within the Pachaug State Forest are closed at this time. Please note that today's forest fire danger report remains at an 'extreme' level. More information about the current fire danger, burn ban and recommended safety measures can be found here

Attainment Demonstrations for the 2015 Ozone NAAQS

Attainment demonstrations are required by the Clean Air Act (CAA) for areas classified moderate nonattainment or above. The Southwest Connecticut portion of the New York- N. New Jersey- Long Island Nonattainment Area was originally designated moderate nonattainment, while the Greater Connecticut Nonattainment Area was originally designated as marginal nonattainment based on monitored ozone levels. However, the original designation for Greater Connecticut underestimated the significant persistence of the ozone problem and the area was unable to attain the standard by the marginal attainment date and was thereby reclassified by EPA to moderate nonattainment on October 7, 2023. Connecticut's two nonattainment areas are now both classified as moderate nonattainment.

Statewide Attainment Demonstration for Moderate Nonattainment
DEEP is submitting the SIP revision below to fulfill the requirements of an Attainment Demonstration for Southwest Connecticut's initial designation to moderate nonattainment, as well as Greater Connecticut's redesignation to moderate nonattainment for the 2015 ozone standard. The plan demonstrates that Connecticut has addressed requirements as outlined under the Clean Air Act (CAA) for moderate nonattainment areas. While Greater Connecticut is expected to attain the 2015 standard in 2023, Southwest Connecticut is unable to attain the 2015 standard without further emissions reductions from nearby upwind states.
