Emergency Burn Ban In Effect 10/26/24 - An emergency burn ban is now in effect for all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors. DEEP and local agencies are working to contain several active fires across the state. Please avoid all affected State Parks and Forests, as well as the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail. The Enduro Trail in Voluntown and portions of North Stonington within the Pachaug State Forest are closed at this time. Lead Planning Efforts

On October 15, 2008, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revised the primary and secondary national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) for airborne lead (Pb) to 0.15 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3).  On October 6, 2009, the State of Connecticut requested to EPA that the entire State be designated as attainment for the revised Lead NAAQS.  Pursuant to Clean Air Act (CAA) sections 110(a)(l) and 110(a)(2), all states were required to submit plans demonstrating they have the requisite legal authority to provide for the implementation, maintenance and enforcement of the revised NAAQS (Infrastructure SIP).  On October 14, 2011, DEEP submitted the Infrastructure SIP to EPA for approval.
