Who can be the state troubadour?
We are not currently accepting State Troubadour nominations or applications.
Singer-songwriters can apply or be nominated if they:
- Have at least five years of composition and performance history. A singer-songwriter is an individual who writes, composes, and sings their own material including lyrics and melodies.
- Have a significant body of work they have composed, performed, and recorded. Professional studio recordings are not required.
- Have composed, recorded, and performed at least one song that promotes Connecticut. Professional studio recordings are not required.
- Can perform both music and lyrics solo without accompaniment by another individual.
Eligible nominees must:
- Be a full-time Connecticut resident for at least two years prior to application deadline
- Display excellent musicianship and experience in singing and songwriting
- Be professionally active and available to travel and perform in a variety of educational and community settings
You can renominate a singer-songwriter who has been nominated before but was not selected. You will need to submit a new nomination; the singer-songwriter will need to submit a new application form.
Ineligible nominees:
- Students currently enrolled in degree-granting institutions
- Previous Connecticut State Troubadours
- COA Arts Council and COA staff and members of their immediate families.
