Governor Malloy Announces $800,000 in Loans to Support Long-time Connecticut Manufacturer
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced the state is providing $800,000 in loans to help Inline Plastics Corporation expand and improve its operations at its Shelton headquarters.
In one of his highest profile appointments to date, Governor Dannel P. Malloy today named ING executive Catherine Smith to lead the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD). Smith, who lives in Northford, has worked for ING for the past 10 years; prior to that, she worked at Aetna for 17 years.
Governor Malloy: DECD Commissioner Smith Announce Funding to Support Development Projects
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Catherine Smith today announced the state will help fund various development projects by redirecting $4.6 million in previously allocated bonding to the Regional Brownfield and Economic Development Program. The State Bond Commission is expected to approve the measure at its next meeting June 24.
Gov. Malloy Announces Launch of Startup Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined with business leaders to announce the launch of Startup Connecticut, a new initiative that will help to reinvent Connecticut by assisting high-growth entrepreneurship throughout the state. Startup Connecticut will be part of a national network of state and regional efforts coordinated by the Startup America Partnership, the national organization working to help young companies grow in order to create jobs in the country. Connecticut becomes the third state in the nation to adopt its own regional initiative.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy will announce a sweeping new jobs initiative at the UConn Health Center on Tuesday, May 17, 2011. The proposal, which will help Connecticut become a leader in the bioscience industry, will create jobs now, sustain economic growth going forward, and spur innovation in the future.
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today named Christopher “Kip” Bergstrom as the Executive Director of the Commission on Culture and Tourism. Upon the consolidation of this function into the Department of Economic and Community Development, Bergstrom would assume additional responsibilities as part of DECD Commissioner Catherine Smith’s team.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced the results of an economic impact study of the tourism industry in Connecticut, showing that the sector of the state's economy generated $14 billion in total sales in 2013 - a three-percent increase from the prior year. The study also shows that tourism supports more than 118,000 jobs statewide - including 80,000 direct jobs - representing 5.3 percent of all employment in the state. Approximately 5,000 new jobs have been created in the industry since the end of the recession.
