Overview
This grant provides technical assistance and emergency repairs to historic and archaeological resources in Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
Only hurricane-related damage is eligible for grant assistance. Grant awards range from $2,500–$500,000.
Eligibility
To be considered for this grant:
- Properties must be listed on the National Register or determined eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. (Properties are usually 50 years of age or more).
- The full funding for the project must be available and restricted for the purposes of this project as of the date of the application. If you are requesting progress payments, you must have the funding for the first phase of the project.
- You are reimbursed upon the completion of the project. SHPO can reimburse applicants for projects that have already been completed.
- All projects must follow the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
- Properties owned by religious organizations are not eligible.
- If your new project involves the restoration of a property or any design work, you must have plans and specifications completed by a Historical Architect that meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards under 36 CFR Part 61.
- All plans and specifications must be reviewed and approved by the SHPO prior to work commencing. The development of plans and specifications are eligible expenses under this grant.
- SHPO may reimburse property owners for projects that have been completed or where a contract has been signed with a contractor prior to September 1, 2013.
- All projects, whether public or private properties, require a Preservation Restriction. See below.
- All properties must be insured.
