How to Apply - Emerging Teaching Artist

Applicants must be a Connecticut artist and:

  • 18 years or older
  • able to provide proof of primary residency in Connecticut
  • lawfully permitted to work in the United States
  • available to travel and participate in the in-person 8 session program. 

Artists selected will enter into an agreement with the State of Connecticut and will receive a training stipend in the amount of $1,000.

Please be aware that COA will collect a W9 from selected artists and the stipend may be considered taxable income.

Application Process

Interested Emerging Teaching Artists must complete an online application at the following link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GT2LTT3

Application Deadline: September 6, 2023

When completing your electronic submission, you will not be able to save and return later. You must be prepared to complete your application in its entirety once you begin. Therefore, it is advised to prepare your responses before you begin the online application.

We have included a copy of the application questions below. You may complete your application responses and copy and paste them into the online application. 

  • The application asks for your contact information and self-identification.
  • Select your artistic discipline(s)
  • Do you have previous experience working with older adults (yes/no)
  • Share past experience you've had working with older adults and/or tell us what interests you about working with older adults.
  • Do you have some previous experience working as a teaching artist? (yes/no)
  • Share past experience as a teaching artist and/or tell us experiences that are preparing you to work as a teaching artist. 
  • Why do you want to work as a teaching artist with older adults?
  • Are you committed to sequential learning teaching practices? Sequential learning is the process of building knowledge gained from one session to the next. Participants are active (not passive) learners. (yes/no)
  • Share a little about your interest and plans for offering sequential learning and skill-building programs for older adults.   
  • Creative Aging activities are designed with our READI framework in mind. Tell us about the role equity, access, diversity, and inclusion play in your life and how you see READI impacting your work as a teaching artist. You may speak to all or choose those most meaningful for you.

Selection Process & Criteria

All applications will be reviewed by peer reviewers and the applications will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Commitment – interest in serving as a Creative Aging Teaching Artist
  • Connectiveness – ability to thoughtfully reach the intended community while using sequential learning teaching skills
  • Creativity & Growth - interest and willingness to learn through this opportunity and engage as a Creative Aging Teaching Artist
