What is the Artists Respond grant?

The Artists Respond grant program awards funds to Connecticut artists for community-based projects that range from large audience events to small group activities. Artist-led projects use the arts to inspire, empower, educate, and transform Connecticut communities.

Connecticut artists may apply for a grant of $3,000 to support artist fees and project-related expenses.

The projects must occur in Connecticut and be led by the artist/applicant. Artists may partner with nonprofits and business entities, but the project must be the work of the artists, not the nonprofit or business.

Projects should thoughtfully engage the community. Be sure to consider community needs, social issues and current events.

The program is not accepting applications at this time. The Office of the Arts alternates annually between the Artist Fellowship Program and the Artists Respond program. The current state fiscal year 2025 grant cycle offered the Artist Fellowship program. The Artist Respond program will be offered in fiscal year 2026. Therefore, the anticipated schedule for the next round of Artists Respond grants is noted below:

  • Program guidelines and application available in late spring or early summer 2025.
  • Application deadline in late summer 2025.
  • Supports project activities that take place between February 15, 2026 and February 14, 2027.
  • Sign up to receive our e-news for program announcements.
