Continuing Education for Real Estate Professionals Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Continuing Education Requirement?

To renew their license, all real estate licensees (brokers and salespeople) must complete 12 classroom hours of Continuing Education Courses. All real estate licensees must complete at least one of the Mandatory Courses among the required 12 hours of Continuing Education courses.

What is a Mandatory Course?

A Mandatory Course is a particular Continuing Education course that has been approved by the Real Estate Commission to consist of at least three (3) classroom hours in specific subjects including current real estate and fair housing legislation, licensing laws, and regulations.

How can I find Continuing Education Courses? Which ones are Mandatory Courses?

All Continuing Education courses, including Mandatory Courses, are listed in this database. Licensees may request the Real Estate Commission to allow any other Continuing Education course on an individual basis, provided the request is submitted 90 days prior to the Continuing Education Completion Deadline.

Do I need to take every Mandatory Course?

No. Real estate licensees must complete at least one Mandatory Course among their 12 Continuing Education hours. If a licensee takes additional Mandatory Courses, those will be credited toward any remaining hours.

Does retaking a course count towards my Continuing Education?

Each course may only be credited toward their Continuing Education hours once every two years, between September 1 of an even-numbered year and August 30 of the following even-numbered year.

When is the deadline to complete my Continuing Education?

The Continuing Education completion deadline is three (3) months before the expiration of your license.

What happens if I don’t have my Continuing Education done by the deadline?

If you have not completed your Continuing Education by your expiration date, this may result in a lapse in your license and/or enforcement action against you. After April 1, 2024, you will be assessed additional, nonrefundable late fees ranging from $315 to $625.
