Homemaker-Companion Agency Complaint Filing Guide
The Department of Consumer Protection regulates Homemaker Companion Agencies. These are the business entities that employ individual homemakers and companions who provide in-home services. The Department does not issue credentials to the individuals who provide the service, just the business entity. If you believe that an HCA has violated the law or engaged in deceptive business practices, you may file a complaint by visiting: https://www.elicense.ct.gov
Please follow the instructions below to file a complaint.
- Optional: Login or create an account (recommended but not required)
- Under Online Services > Activities, click on “File a complaint/claim"
- Click on “File a New Complaint/Claim"
- Select “Consumer Protection – General Complaint”, select “Business”, and enter business name and contact information – then click “File Complaint, Claim…”
- Confirm the information that you entered and click “Next"
- Enter your name and contact information. Note: if you logged in, this information will be prefilled. Then select “Next”.
Note: if you select “File Anonymously” you will not receive email updates on your complaint.
- Read the general instructions and click “Next”.
Note: Documents listed here are primarily related to home improvement work. Please upload any documents that may assist us in evaluating and responding to your HCA complaint.
- Select the option for how you would like your complaint resolved, either:
- “Let DCP know about bad business practices – Consumer does not require help” or
- “Requesting mediation for a dispute with a business”
- Click “Next”, and answer the remaining questions on the following pages.
