It's Close To Midnight, And Something Evil's Lurking In The Dark, Under The Moonlight, You See A Sight That Almost Stops Your Heart: DCP’s Annual Reminder That It’s Time To Go Home When Daylight Savings Ends

It might be a thriller, thriller night but bars and restaurants may not stay open an “extra hour” on Sunday morning

10/30/2026

Trick or treat
I repeat:
Clock turns back it’s time to retreat
If you don’t, I don’t care
Bars are closed, violators beware

HARTFORD -- The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection Liquor Control Division is reminding the public that when the clocks fall back from 2 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Sunday morning, bars and restaurants may not remain open an “extra hour,” no matter how good your Halloween costume is.

At that time, no more sales, consumption, or presence of alcoholic beverages is allowed in Connecticut bars and restaurants, according to state liquor regulations.

“I’m witching you a happy Halloween, but you can’t always get what you wand,” said DCP Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli. “We remind the public every year: when the clocks change, all Connecticut bars and restaurants must stop serving alcohol and all customers must leave. Eat, drink and be scary, but when the clocks fall back, finish your boos, get home safe, and enjoy the extra hour of sleep.”

If you have any questions or would like to file a complaint regarding a Connecticut liquor permittee, you may send an email to the Liquor Control Division at dcp.liquorcontrol@ct.gov or call (860) 713-6210.

The Division also accepts complaints filed online at portal.ct.gov/liquorcomplaints.
