Tuesday, July 10th, 2018 – Today, the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) and Walmart Pharmacy announced that Walmart has integrated their Pharmacy Data System with the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP). This allows them to access patient information more efficiently when filling prescriptions for patients. Walmart Pharmacy is the first pharmacy in Connecticut to complete this integration.
“We want to congratulate Walmart for this accomplishment, and hope that other pharmacies follow in their footsteps,” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull, “We all know the most important time in a health care professional’s day is spent with patients. This type of integration gives health care professionals access to the information they need more quickly, so they can spend more time meeting patient needs.”
Walmart Pharmacies have 33 locations and one Sam’s Club Pharmacy in the State of Connecticut, which has 707 total licensed pharmacies.
Pharmacists upload prescription information into the PDMP for patients when they dispense medications that are Schedule II – V controlled substances. This allows prescribers and pharmacists in the state to access patient prescription history in order to make the best health care decisions possible with their patients. Connecticut’s PDMP is currently connected with systems from 30 other states and Washington D.C.
