Lookup or Verify a License, Permit or Registration – Instructions

All data within License Lookup is maintained by the State of Connecticut, updated instantly, and considered a primary source of verification.

If you do not need instructions, you can proceed to LICENSE LOOKUP.

If you do need instructions, please review or print the step-by step directions below before proceeding. When you are ready, proceed to the LICENSE LOOKUP website or copy the URL https://www.elicense.ct.gov into your web browser.

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

On the eLicense screen, click on Lookup a License.

 

A search screen will display. You can search using various information that you have. Use only 1 or 2 pieces of information to get the best search results. You can add more information if needed, to narrow your search.  Search options include:

  1. License Type: Scroll down to choose the license type, if you know it
  2. Type Prefix: A set of letters or numbers at the beginning of a credential or license number. It identifies the specific category or profession. The list is organized numerically, then alphabetically. Scroll down to choose the prefix if you know it.
  3. License Number: Enter the individuals or business license number if you have it from a business card, an ad, or a contract. Leading zeros are not required.
  4. License Status: Choose Active, Pending or Inactive to narrow your results. If you are not sure, leave it blank.
  5. Business Name/DBA/Nickname: You can search by the business name, DBA (doing business as/tradename) or a nickname.
  6.  First Name and Last Name: You can enter last name and first name of an individual.
  7. Address - City, State, Zip. Country: These may help narrow the search.

For the best results, we recommend entering the license type category list and the license or registration number. See example highlighted box below.

Clicking Search will show all result(s) at the bottom of the page. Click Details to see more information or to print the results.

You will see the name, mailing address, credential number, the type of credential, and information on when the credential went into effect and expires. Some credentials will show the scope of work of a specific license or supervisor information if required.
